Did you know that you can change the way you think and feel in an instant?
Your mind follows the breath. The key to controlling your mind is in controlling your breath.
By focusing on your breath and changing your breath pattern you can shift anxiety, fear, negative thinking and more. This is the power of pranayam.
Most of us do not breath properly. Usually we breath shallow, erratic using only our upper chest. When we breath like this we are not fully opening ourselves to the joy of life. We are literally squeezing the life out of us.
Breathing erratically affects the way you think, creating erratic thoughts, lacking concentration, jumping from one thought to the next. This can create fear, confusion and anxiety.
Just by learning to observe your breath and change your breathing you can:
- promote health and vitality
- control your mind and moods
- develop concentration
- shift your awareness to positive thoughts and feelings
- promote connection to self
- calm yourself of anxiety, fear and worry.
So if you are feeling anxious, fearful, confused or overwhelmed, stop and become aware of your breath. Watch the in flow and out flow of your breath for a moment. Consciously slow your breath down and begin to take 10 long deep breaths. Slowing the breath down each and every breath that you take, lengthening each inhale and exhale.
Then become aware of how this shifts your awareness, centering yourself. When you are centered and connected you are able to think rationally and logically. You are able to see things for how they really are rather than being drawn into fear and anxiety.
By bringing your focus on the breath for a few minutes allows you to enter the state of the present moment. Living in the past and future produces fear and holds us back. Living in the present moment is all there is and all that we are experiencing right now. So focus on your breath, take a few moments and take back control of your mind.
Your mind is a tool for you to use, not the other way round. You have the power to change yourself through your breath and learning to control your mind. Stop and take 10 breaths and experience the change.
