Did you know that you can increase your energy, heal yourself, change your mood and increase your intuition all with your breath?

How to get energy fast all starts with your breath and how deeply you are breathing. Shallow breathing limits the intake of life force, prana, into the body, creating a depletion of energy.

Spending a lot of time indoors, stuffy offices and not getting enough fresh clean air, causes a depletion of prana. Prana = health and vitality. If you are not getting enough life force, over time you will become drained and sick.

Pranayam is the science of the breath. In yoga, we control the breath to affect the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual self.

Pranayam helps to control the mind and increases the pranic energy in the body. It purifies the Nadis, energy channels, and prepares the body for the flow of kundalini energy. Helping you to awaken and ascend.

Before I start any meditation I always begin with pranayam. This quickly quietens my mind and creates a deeper and richer meditation experience. It's a great way to prepare for meditation, especially when you are just starting out. 

So how to get energy fast? Try this simple segmented breath pranayam. Divide the breath into several equal parts on the inhale and exhale for one long deep exhalation. It's a 4:1 ratio. 4 parts in and 1 part out.

Meditation for Energy & Healing

This meditation uses a segmented breath on the inhalation. The inhalation is broken down into 4 sniffs, or 4 equal strokes. Then the exhalation is one long deep exhalation. 

This pranayam activates healing within the body, energizes and uplifts you. If you are feeling down or tired and need an instant boost, try this meditation to pep you up and get you connected again.

  • Sit in a comfortable meditative position with the hands resting in Gyan Mudra, resting on the knees

    Spine is straight, neck is long. Be sure not to slouch, as this is a pranayama and the energy needs to flow freely up and down the spine. 
  • Eyes are closed focused up and inward at the third eye point.
  • Begin to inhale in 4 equal sniffs or parts. Instead of inhaling in one smooth motion, the breath is broken into 4 segmented "sniffs". 
  • Hold the breath slightly in at the top after you have inhaled for 4 sniffs.
  • Then slowly exhale 1 nice long deep exhalation. 
  • Hold the breath out for a moment.
  • Continue for 3 - 11 minutes.
  • At the end take a deep breath in and hold it for as long as you can. Exhale release. Meditate on the space you have created within yourself.
